It is installed alongside brake pads. A thin conductive metal strip sits at the wear limit of the brake pad.
As brake pads wear down during driving, the brake disc will grind through the metal strip inside the sensor wire once the pad thickness reaches the safe replacement threshold.
The circuit inside the wire breaks, which sends an electrical signal to the vehicle’s on-board computer.
The dashboard will light up a brake wear warning lamp to remind the driver to replace worn brake pads promptly, avoiding damage to brake rotors and dangerous braking failure.
